3 Recommend to developers and to release manager Moses McKnight? to shift the emphasis of master branch development to stability rather than new features, so that we can release "2.7+1" with JA features sooner rather than later

2016-06-25 16:59:43 andypugh Good evening
2016-06-25 17:00:00 mozmck good morning!
2016-06-25 17:00:11 micges good evening
2016-06-25 17:00:13 jepler seb_kuzminsky sends his regrets but says
2016-06-25 17:00:14 jepler 10:16:57 i vote for all three proposals
2016-06-25 17:00:14 jepler 10:17:48 on #2, i'd like to be involved in the rebase, because part of what needs fixing is the merge into ja of my (at the time) incomplete auto-teleop branch
2016-06-25 17:00:31 jepler anyway, archivist, take it away
2016-06-25 17:00:55 archivist only cradek can set topic
2016-06-25 17:01:24 jepler archivist: try doing it via /query chanserv
2016-06-25 17:01:27 andypugh Is Dewey expected?
2016-06-25 17:01:34 jepler I was looking at channel permissions and it thinks you have +t, which I think is topic-setting
2016-06-25 17:03:59 jepler do we need topic-setting to be able to continue?
2016-06-25 17:04:15 archivist not really, just the bot logs it
2016-06-25 17:05:09 cradek archivist: /msg chanserv topic #linuxcnc-meet ....
2016-06-25 17:08:09 archivist there you go item one
2016-06-25 17:08:23 cradek yay!
2016-06-25 17:08:43 cradek those guys are awesome and have worked for years on this.
2016-06-25 17:08:59 cradek I wholeheartedly say yes to this
2016-06-25 17:09:06 archivist hear hear.
2016-06-25 17:09:11 mozmck Same here.
2016-06-25 17:09:12 jepler of course I say yes
2016-06-25 17:09:16 archivist yes
2016-06-25 17:09:53 jepler awallin: are you idling, or will you be voting?
2016-06-25 17:10:21 cradek micges: also you?
2016-06-25 17:10:39 micges yes
2016-06-25 17:10:39 andypugh I say my thanks to the chaps who did the hard and big stuff. I just did a little script.
2016-06-25 17:12:25 jepler shall we assume that awallin is idling and close voting on the first item?
2016-06-25 17:12:36 archivist I think so
2016-06-25 17:12:40 cradek I think so too
2016-06-25 17:13:11 andypugh Yes
2016-06-25 17:13:15 mozmck yes
2016-06-25 17:13:19 cradek yes!
2016-06-25 17:13:20 micges yes
2016-06-25 17:13:21 jepler Nobody has reported any serious regressions, and dewey and others remain active addressing minor ones.
2016-06-25 17:13:24 jepler yes
2016-06-25 17:13:27 archivist yes
2016-06-25 17:14:40 archivist next?
2016-06-25 17:14:48 jepler yes next
2016-06-25 17:15:13 andypugh Sounds sensible.
2016-06-25 17:15:26 jepler It's a huge advance, and we should get it to users sooner rather than later
2016-06-25 17:15:36 mozmck yes, I agree.
2016-06-25 17:15:36 jepler and it's just asking mozmck to use good sense
2016-06-25 17:15:37 jepler so yes
2016-06-25 17:15:41 cradek I'm really happy about moses being the new release manager
2016-06-25 17:16:02 mozmck I hope I can do it well.
2016-06-25 17:16:20 cradek I'll do whatever I can to help you
2016-06-25 17:16:41 mozmck What about a time window for any new features before freezing it?
2016-06-25 17:16:49 andypugh We may want a new section in the docs, at the top of the HTML list "What has changed, and why"
2016-06-25 17:16:57 cradek [for the record, the ? after Moses's name is because of the wiki and not a part of the proposal here]
2016-06-25 17:17:28 jepler mozmck: setting release schedule is part of your job as RM
2016-06-25 17:18:06 mozmck ok. I'll try to use good sense.
2016-06-25 17:18:08 cradek yes part of that is deciding when to make the relase branch, and when to freeze it for new features
2016-06-25 17:18:13 jepler this is looking more like discussion than voting so far. shall we go ahead and vote, or is there more to discuss?
2016-06-25 17:18:25 cradek time to vote
2016-06-25 17:18:27 jepler talking about "what are RM duties" seems off-topic for #linuxcnc-meet
2016-06-25 17:18:37 cradek I vote yes
2016-06-25 17:18:38 jepler I vote yes
2016-06-25 17:18:41 archivist yes
2016-06-25 17:18:43 mozmck yes
2016-06-25 17:18:46 andypugh Yes
2016-06-25 17:18:56 micges yes
2016-06-25 17:19:06 jepler once again that seems to be everybody
2016-06-25 17:20:13 archivist anything else?
2016-06-25 17:20:22 cradek I notice that seb didn't make it, but he said an hour ago here that he voted yes for all three proposals
2016-06-25 17:20:38 cradek so I think we should count those votes
2016-06-25 17:21:05 jepler "Concerned individuals that are unable to attend the meeting may also express their preferences so as to be considered during the discussion"
2016-06-25 17:21:07 mozmck I agree.
2016-06-25 17:21:27 jepler but it will just change the results from unanimous to unanimous
2016-06-25 17:21:44 cradek that's great
2016-06-25 17:22:17 jepler I think that's the end of business.
2016-06-25 17:22:39 archivist !end 201606
